The majority of couples I’ve met talk about Valentine’s Day as an unimportant or boring holiday or they say “we don’t really do anything for Valentine’s Day.” Statistics show that 53% of women say they would considering ending their relationship if they didn’t get something for Valentine’s Day. What? Yes, apparently it’s that serious. Another alarming statistic is that 14% of women buy themselves flowers for the holiday. So guys, you better get it together and spice up your Valentine’s Day.
One of the biggest struggles is falling into the trap of cliché gifts or feeling the pressure of buying the perfect present. Valentine’s Day should be a day that ignites your relationship, no strings-attached and spices up the love for the year. I am completely onboard with the idea “our relationship should be a priority all year long, not just one day.” Agreed, and Valentine’s Day is a great day to continue that effort or get it started!
Husbands and wives, here is a great way to have fun with Valentine’s Day presents that are sure to ignite the passion in your relationship.
Spice up your Valentine’s Day by gifting the 5 senses.
Touch
There are plenty of options to gift the sense of touch. You could gift this incredibly soft fleece blanket on Amazon! If you are wanting more of an activity to do together, experience the sense of touch by taking a pottery class together al Ghost. Get intimate by taking turns giving one another a massage with some essential oils.
Smell
Ever step outside on a summer night and it seems to take you right back to sweet memories of summers passed? Your sense of smell is the sense that is most closely connected to memories and emotion. Create new memories and closeness by incorporating the gift of smell. Give your husband a manly body wash or beard oil. Husbands, try igniting the passion in your relationship by getting your wife a romantic scented candle or a new perfume. This candle is a favorite for spending a relaxing and romantic evening in.
Sight
With the sense of sight, there are a lot of options and ways to get creative with Valentine’s Day presents. Celebrate the night by going to see a play at a local theater or stay in and watch a classic movie. You could spend the evening looking through old photos and reminiscing about some of your favorite times. Wives, you could really spice up your Valentine’s Day with new lingerie, which is a gift that keeps on giving.
Hear
Start with making a playlist that sets the mood. If you are looking for a fun night out, get tickets to a local concert. Think about your partner and really tune in to what they will like. Maybe new earphones (the women I know love this rose gold pair) or a music player for the bedroom.
Taste:
There are so many options to play on your sense of taste – dinner, dessert or champagne. You could have a traditional date night and go to a romantic restaurant. It could be fun to go out of for ice cream and try a new flavor or you pick a flavor for each other. Want to really spice up your Valentine’s Day? Make a homemade dessert, take it to bed and don’t be afraid to get messy with it.
If you want to really reap the full benefits, try one gift or experience that heightens each of the 5 senses. Tie all these gifts together with a sentimental card that shows how much you love your spouse and tells them why they’re so fabulous. This card will surely express that being with you makes perfect “sense.”
