Parenting is hard work. It is easy to get caught up in all the negativity that surrounds raising a child; are you doing it all right? However, have you ever found yourself wondering what constitutes being a positive parent? Being a positive parent is all about shifting perspective and focus on doing what is best physically, emotionally, mentall and spiritually for your child. This can be a hard task! Become your child’s ally. This means that you need to be intentional about strengthening the relationship you have with your child. By strengthening the connection as a parent you gain leverage and your child will be more willing to side with you on important decisions.
Here are some useful tools to help you learn to become a positive parent:
- Show Your Child How Genuine You Are. Letting them see your strengths and weaknesses helps them feel more connected to you as a person.
- Be Your Child’s Best Model. Teach your child with your behavior that it is ok to make mistakes and apologize for them. It sends them the message that we are not perfect and it helps strengths the connections between you too.
- Make Time For Your Child and Show Affection As Often As Possible. Making time for your child and giving them as much affection as possible lets them know how important they are to you and also teaches them to be emotionally open.
