How do you classify beauty? Are you consumed by appearance, grace and sophistication? Or do you believe beauty comes from within and shows up in ways like personality, kindness, and forgiveness? Beauty is definitely a subjective term and can only be determined by the eye of the beholder. Did you know there is a National Making Life Beautiful Day each year? How would you choose to make your life more beautiful?
National Making Life Beautiful Day landed on the Registrar of the National Calendar on April 2015. It was created with the purpose of encouraging men and women to seek their own internal beauty through an external approach. Here are some suggestions for making your own life more beautiful:
Look outside the box.
Often times we struggle to see past our own perspective. This can be difficult if we are experiencing struggles in life or transition and change. Take a different approach and consider your situation through a different lens. See your difficulty as an opportunity of growth instead of a road to disappointment. This one simple change can be a big part of making life beautiful.
Set goals.
Goals encourage, motivate and bring purpose. Determination can be inspirational. Remember, look outside the box. It can be small goals such as making your bed every morning or a bigger goal of training for a 5k. Who can you inspire by making life beautiful through challenging yourself?
Be a kind human.
Just be nice! Hold a door for someone, compliment them or offer up a simple smile. You have the power to make someone’s day. The beautiful part is that person will feel better and may even pay it forward. Making life beautiful can have a positive ripple effect.
Laugh.
Laughter is contagious and is actually good for your health, What a better way to celebrate the day then letting loose and laughing. It decreases tension and stress while giving your immune system a boost.
Volunteer.
Jumping out of your comfort zone and helping the community is not only a great way to meet people, but it makes you feel more positive. There are many different opportunities throughout your community and many organizations that could use an extra hand in making life beautiful for others.
Listen to the world around you.
Take a walk on a beautiful day. Enhance all your senses by really taking in the environment around you. Listen to the sounds of the birds chirping or kids laughter, feel the breeze on your face and smell the flowers. Appreciating these small moments of making life beautiful can bring a greater sense of gratitude.
Making life beautiful can be something we strive for daily, but June 11 reminds us to enjoy the beauty around us while creating our own world of beauty.
