Forgiveness is one of those ideas people think they understand until they really stop to think about it. Then they realize maybe they don’t. How do you actually define forgiveness? You may have thought you’d made a choice to forgive someone but then found yourself feeling resentful. When most people look a little deeper, they come to realize they really haven’t fully forgiven the person who wronged them. Or at least they aren’t quite sure if they actually have. You may have made a cognitive decision, set an intention to forgive or internalized a notion that you should forgive, but in reality, nothing has really changed.
