Key West Vacation Guide: Favorite Spots For Your Best Getaway

Key West Vacation

Is daily life getting you down? Maybe you’re feeling extra tired and worn out from the daily grind, or maybe you just need some time away to reconnect with yourself or your partner. One of my favorite weekend jaunts is right here in my home state of Florida. A Key West vacation is full of amazing adventures just waiting to be explored, with endless options for adventure, delicious food, fun, and relaxation.  Key West, Florida, happens to be one of my favorite places to travel.

Some of my favorite places to stay, places to eat, and things to do on a Key West vacation:

Places to Stay

Courtney’s Place

Located a block from the marina, this B&B is a quiet and relaxing place to stay during a romantic weekend getaway or even a week-long Key West vacation. This quaint cottage gives you the perfect feel of Key West living while being far enough away from the hustle and bustle of lively Duval Street. The best part of this B&B is being within walking distance to all the main adventurous attractions located at the marina.

Almond Tree Inn

Located a block from Duval Street, the Almond Tree Inn is a short walk to all the restaurants, bars, and people watching that Duval Street has to offer. Being in the heart of the historic district of Key West, it won’t take long to walk to many of the local tourist attractions like the Hemingway House and the Southernmost Point.

Places to Eat

Firefly Key West

It is a block or two from the infamous Duval Street. This southern-style restaurant is delicious. It’s far enough away from the busyness and provides a cozy, intimate dinner out. Southern cuisine blocks away from the Southernmost point is not only fitting but also unique in this area. This is a great choice if you want a different kind of dinner than the usual Key West seafood fare. Refresh with a sparkling mojito with lime, fresh mint, agave, and prosecco. Start with their deviled eggs and buttermilk biscuits with homemade jam. I love the catch of the day blackened served with hominy collards, crawfish hushpuppies, and corn puree or the half roasted chicken. Finish your meal with their fabulous key lime cake with raspberry sauce and cream cheese frosting… sounds amazing, right? That’s because it is. Trust me.

Latitudes

Located at Sunset Key Cottages, this restaurant is only accessible by ferry. If you are looking for a romantic dinner on the ocean with a beautiful view of the sunset, look no further. It’s important to note, you must make a reservation, but also be prepared to be flexible because those evening summer storms can sometimes push back your reservation time because most of the seating is outdoors. It’s worth the risk – this amazing dining spot sits on its own island!

Things to Do on Your Key West Vacation

Sugarloaf Key Bridge

If you are looking for free entertainment that’s exhilarating and adventurous, try going off the beaten path and literally jumping off the Sugarloaf Key Bridge. A local hotspot, this bridge is tucked away from the main highway on Sugarloaf Key. Search for it on TripAdvisor or ask a local for specific directions. It’s a free-flowing canal that is refreshing and a whole lot of fun. It’s the perfect high point for your Key West vacation.

Snorkeling

There are plenty of options for snorkeling the beautiful reefs in Key West. My favorite way to go is to take a catamaran out to the reefs. Some offer packages that include two meals, parasailing, and jet skiing, along with snorkeling. Some even offer cocktails on the way back. If you want a shorter trip, try taking a small charter specifically traveling to the reef and back. If you want something a bit closer to the main island, snorkel off the beach at Zachery Taylor State Park.

Bonus

Being in the Sunshine State, you should always count on a summer afternoon rainstorm. If your adventures get cancelled, don’t let it ruin your Key West vacation; we’ve got you covered. Channel your best National Geographic photography skills and venture inside the beautiful and tranquil butterfly conservatory. This activity is also a great way to avoid the heat during some of those sweltering Florida summer days.
